# Privacy-first analytics is a real market

> Several small teams built sustainable businesses by doing less than Google Analytics. Here is why the niche keeps working.

Google Analytics is free, powerful and confusing. For most small sites that is the wrong trade: they want five numbers, no cookie banner and no legal worry. That gap created a whole category of small, profitable companies.

## Why it works

- **Regulation is the marketing.** GDPR and cookie rules give every site owner a reason to look for an alternative, and "no cookie banner needed" is a benefit people understand instantly.
- **Less is the feature.** A single-page dashboard is easier to build and easier to sell than a full analytics suite.
- **Open source is distribution.** Projects like Plausible and Umami get adopted by developers who self-host, then some of them pay for hosting.

## How they charge

Almost all of them price by monthly pageviews, which grows revenue as customers grow, without per-seat friction.

## What's still open

Most tools target websites. Product analytics for small SaaS teams, with the same privacy stance and simplicity, is far less crowded.
